If he would have given me an estimate in a timely manner or at least told me they didn't have the time, I wouldn't be writing any bad reviews. God forbid an employee do their job anymore and show respect to their customers.
I sent him the first text message two days after he looked at the floor. He never gave me an indication that he was too busy for the project, otherwise, where is the proof in my phone? All he said was that he was finishing up another job and he would try to have it to me by Monday. By Wednesday, I haven't heard a word from him so I texted again more direct and said I have been waiting a week now for an estimate with no response back. After two more weeks, I wrote the BBB review.
The location I requested the decking be replaced was in a short hallway between the hot-water heater on one side of the wall and the A/C on the other. Yes, it would have been a pain or maybe he was just too lazy for the task because apparently some people only work when they feel like it.
I have also referred DJ and Walker Hardwood to several friends. All I have heard are positive reviews.
I recently gave a moderate review explaining my own encounter regarding this company on the Better Business Bureau's website (read there for more details). I was completely appalled to find out the response back was nothing but defamation of the highest degree! Here's what he heaved out - "DJ did not feel comfortable with the customer or the location of the job and felt that this job was not within our scope of repairs, we do not replace subfloors on mobile homes. He responded to her that he did not have time to do her job, we do not have to provide an estimate if we feel uncomfortable with the job. We do not bid every job we look at." Therefore, since I am the only reliable source in this circumstance, here are the actual facts and my personal opinion once again.
If he would have told me they were too busy to get to the project, I could have had several estimates done in that week just waiting on his one. How ridiculous is that? Plus, the job could have been done by now.
I am happy to give Walker Hardwood a 5-Star review. I have had business dealings with DJ Walker and Walker Hardwood for several years now. The relationship has spanned a variety of projects from simple and quick to month's long and more complex.
DJ is creative, hardworking, honest and does quality work at a good price. Walker Hardwood is a fine family business that I am happy to recommend.
After seeing my review of the business, a REAL professional would have called me and said something like "Ann, I truly apologize for never getting back with you about an estimate. We were slammed with customers and I should have kept you informed on what was going on. Please tell me how I can make this right?" Nope, that would have been the right thing to do. Instead, he takes the easy way out and completely lies to the public. If you want to hire a person that procrastinates and gives bold face lies, good luck to you!
The only reason he's uncomfortable with me now is because I provided a justified review where he couldn't handle the truth.

First off, when I called to make the appointment, I explained what I wanted to have done for the project and the receptionist never said they do not replace the decking in a mobile home. Secondly, when he was examining the floor, he never communicated they do not replace the subfloors. All he said what that they would use a 4'X8' sheet of plywood because that would be easier.
